During my +25 years as a food product engineer, I have undertaken numerous challenges and assignments. From my first professional experience, I have been accustomed to working alongside people as a quality and production manager. Later in my career, I realized the importance of seeing the bigger picture, which led me to pursue a Master of Business Administration. For my PhD, I investigated a novel approach to frozen fish glazing, hoping to shift some industry paradigms. In 2018, I had the honor of being awarded the title of Food Engineer Specialist by the Portuguese Engineering Professional Association. My passion for sharing knowledge and developing people grows stronger every day. As a result, over the past few years, I’ve started publishing books and articles on food safety. I also founded the initiative “The Why of Food Safety—I’m a SLO,” which brings food safety professionals together under the idea that we should be our organizations’ Saving Lives Officer. I understand what it’s like to feel like a cog in the machine, and I want food safety professionals to be recognized and valued for the important work they do. This is precisely why I published my third book, How to Sell Food Safety. Now, I dedicate myself exclusively to helping food safety professionals build more fulfilling careers through expanding their knowledge, improving their skills, and fostering a growth mindset.
